tgifridays is the chain of bar food restaurants (an unusual market niche) that migrated from America and became beloved of corporations everywhere, which no longer have to make decisions regarding their holiday parties. Of course there is still choice, but everyone knows it's perfectly safe to punt to tgifridays if one just doesn't feel up to the task of selecting an inoffensive alternative. And certainly "inoffensive" is the word for tgifridays's cooking: it's updated American food of the type served at sports bars, and makes no bones about sticking exclusively to that basic mission. By now, most of us have visited a tgifridays at least once (and for some of us, once is more than enough), so familiarity with the menu's tone is widespread. Weirdly, the chain originated in Manhattan, which is normally considered too upscale to support either a great deal of this kind of food or the insistent "Gay 90s" (that's 1890s, in case you were wondering) faux-antique decor. However, the tgifridays business paid no attention to that incongruity and went on to succeed worldwide, especially because it is often characterized as one of the first so-called "singles' bars," where unattached people went in the hope of finding a partner at least for the evening. That image doesn't match the sports-match food very well, and it's evident that in the interim the erstwhile pickup joint, not to put too fine a point on it, has grown up into a family-style casual dining emporium.

tgifridays.com, the US version of this site, has a very helpful page on which one can see the entire menu by flipping "pages," which are named according to the type of food thereon (customers' favorites, low calorie, appetizers, soups and salads, seafoods, Jack Daniels-sauced grill items, steak and ribs, sandwiches, burgers, pasta and chicken, lunch specials, drinks, desserts, party platter, and children's dishes. That quick review is tgifridays in a nutshell, because it tells you everything you need to know about the business. tgifridays' food is usually competent but no more than that, and overall its quality is not impressive but it is consistently reliable. The UK tgifridays site will unfortunately not disclose its choices as a group, but you may peek using the restaurant selector and see the very same items repeated.
