East was founded in the late 1980's by Clive Pettigrew, Penny Oliver and Jonathan Keating, three personalities already in the fashion indutry who shared a passion for for hand crafted clothing with the mixture of bright colors and block printing found in India. In particular, they were drawn to the Anokhi brand, and began the business as Anokhi Warehouse, Ltd. Some eight years later the business had grown substantially, and had several new ranges of collections supplied by different designers to support the Anokhi products. Hence, East was born with the new name in 1994.
Today, EAST has grown significantly, with 99 outlets supplying clothing, jewelry and accessories to women with a taste for unique designs made with natural fabrics and an ethnic feel. They still stay true to the time honored traditions of the Far East. As the designers travel worldwide to find unique, organic materials, they are inspired by the people they meet and incorporate what they see into their own designs.
EAST also separates itself from other high street brands by offering new collections every few weeks. This assures fresh and unique designs for the fashion minded consumer. Each piece is made in concert with the others to be easily combined, allowing each customer the ability to create their own personal look.
